REFLECTIONS on BOSHAM HOE By John Francis

The Jolly Roger flew on the waterside edge of The Harbour

on Sunday in the annual Garden Party celebration of The Sussex

Otters, the swimming Club for disabled and handicapped folk.

By courtesy of Alan, The Club President and The Family Gick

inviting the Members and Friends to enjoy their garden. The sun

shone on Bosham Hoe. The Labrador puppy was well pleased to have

so many visitors and friends that he might cadge what might be going

from the picnic baskets, a visiting dog called Fred chose rather to

ignore him. Tombola, everyone a winner, four dazzling ladies in

interested attendance, books and magazines, cooking to fashions, great

titles for 10p., garden produce from sweet tasting cucumbers to house

plants displaying pretty flowers, win a bottle of, did wonder what

was in the golden bag and upon the other end of stringed bunch of

labels; it was won by welcomed Friends from The Dolphins of

Littlehampton, a good smile from another of their Members, the best

that he could manage from his wheelchair. Hidden doubloons found

from the Pirate’s Map, auctioning of the Jolly Roger considered not

much of an idea. Headmaster won the cake, made some sixty slices,

someone made a fine cake, how does one count 2,732 buttons in the

bottle. The trip around the harbour on the specially chartered

sloop, in long tradition as The Admiral’s memory was honoured. The

swimming pool invited the hardier members to a swim. Chance of a

friendly chat with pretty girls from upwards of four to Senior members

knocking on for seventy something ..Table groaning under generous

gifts as the grand raffle was called. Time for sweaters as the cooling

evening breeze glinted the harbour waters. Rain had been forecast but

the rain gods stayed away and the westering sun was reflected on the sea.

Gordon The Chairman thanked everyone reminding that this was

in aid of Club funds and particularly that new EU regulations were

demanding a replacement hoist to help our Members in and out of

the water, a substantial drain on the Club’s resources. Drum up

some new Members.

Meetings are a routine Saturday afternoon 4.30 Westgate Centre
